So I still need to tell you about my birthday gift from Adam. He got me tickets to see John Oliver in the Chicago theater on December the 31st<\/sup>. Now that in and of itself is already so awesome (I love John Oliver), but that\u2019s not it \u2013 he\u2019s got that entire trip planned out, December 31st<\/sup> to January 3rd<\/sup> (\u201cI won\u2019t be able to get that weekend off, Anni\u201d) and won\u2019t tell me about what else is happening until it\u2019s about to happen. Needless to say I\u2019m very excited. And he made a giant leap towards the Best Gift Ever :-). Oh, I do know one more thing: we\u2019ll be watching the new Star Wars movie. And they do fireworks on New Year\u2019s on Navy Pier! And we\u2019re taking the train to Chicago :-D.<\/p>\n

Ich muss euch noch von Adams Geburtstagsgeschenk erz\u00e4hlen. Er hat mir Tickets f\u00fcr John Olivers Show im Chicago Theater am 31. <\/strong>Dezember geschenkt. Das allein ware schon ein gro\u00dfer Grund zur Freude (ich liebe John Oliver), aber das ist nicht alles \u2013 er hat einen kompletten Trip vom 31.12.-3.1. geplant (\u201eIch kann an dem Wochenende nicht freinehmen, Anni\u201c) und wird mir nicht verraten, was wir machen bis es tats\u00e4chlich passiert. Ich bin schwerst begeistert. Und er hat einen gigantischen Schritt Richtung Bestes Geschenk Aller Zeiten gemacht :-). Oh, ich wei\u00df doch noch eine Sache: Wir werden den neuen Star Wars Film anschauen. Und an Silvester gibts ein Feuerwerk auf dem Navy Pier! Und wir fahren mit dem Zug nach Chicago :-D.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I got to work on Monday, my desk looked like this:

\nMy department also brought snacks and sweets and sang me happy birthday, it was very sweet :). And then on Tuesday we were all called into the conference room to a little collection of gifts with our names on them \u2013 from the attorneys to the assistants \u2013 very nice indeed. Love(d) the mouse (I already ate it)!
\nAu\u00dferdem hatte meine Abteilung Snacks und S\u00fc\u00dfes mitgebracht und mir gleich auch noch ein St\u00e4ndchen gesungen. Sehr nett :). Am Dienstag wurden wir dann alle ins Konferenzzimmer gerufen und jede von uns bekam eine kleine Kollektion an Geschenken \u2013 von den Anw\u00e4ltInnen f\u00fcr die Assistentinnen \u2013 super nett! War die Maus nicht s\u00fc\u00df (ist schon lange gemampft)?!

\nWeitere Nachrichten von der Arbeit: Ich habe dann auch endlich mal mein Namensschild bekommen :).

\nIn each class in the kids\u2019 school, a monthly \u201ccharacter cat\u201d is chosen \u2013 one student who did especially well. Alyssa was November\u2019s character cat and as such had a role in the school\u2019s Tiger Pride Assembly on Monday morning. I was the only one who could go to work late so I went to see her announce attendance awards for the first semester.
\nIn jeder Klasse in der Grundschule wird jeden Monat eine \u201eCharakter-Katze\u201c gew\u00e4hlt \u2013 ein\/e Sch\u00fcler\/in der\/die sich besonders gut benommen hat. Alyssa war im November die Charakter-Katze ihrer Klasse und hatte somit einen kleinen Auftritt in einer Schulversammlung am Montag morgen. Da ich die einzige war, die sp\u00e4ter zur Arbeit gehen konnte, war ich da und habe sie die Anwesenheits-Preise f\u00fcr das erste Semester ank\u00fcndigen sehen.

\nWe Germans have known for a long time that Americans really, really love their Christmas decorations and their lights. So it seemed only fiiting to go to a local attraction (15 miles West of Macon) to set the Christmas mood – this is a person’s backyard. My eyes still hurt a little, lol. But Owen had a blast (we had to do the loop twice).
\nWir Deutschen wissen ja schon lange, dass die Amis ihre Weihnachtsdeko und -Lichter \u00fcber alles lieben. Es schien also sehr passend, uns mit denselbigen auf Weihnachten einzustimmen – dies ist eine kleine Attraktion ca. 25 Weilen westlich von Macon. Und im Garten einer Privatperson. Meine Augen tun immer noch ein bisschen weh, lol. Aber Owen fand es gro\u00dfartig (wir mussten 2x drumherum laufen).

\nAnd then it was finally Christmas :). Christmas Eve we spent at Bill& Debbie\u2019s house with Grandma – a very fun and relaxed day.
\nAfter the kids went to bed on the 24th, I set out the rest of the gifts and Adam went back to Bill& Debbie\u2019s house to pick up their new bikes \u2013 that\u2019s this year\u2019s Santa gift.<\/p>\n

Und dann war endlich Weihnachten :). An Heiligabend waren wir mit Adams Oma bei Bill& Debbie – es war sehr nett und entspannt.<\/strong>
\nN<\/strong>achdem die Kinder am 24. schlafen gegangen sind, habe ich die restlichen Geschenke unter den Baum ger\u00e4umt und Adam ist zur\u00fcck zu Bill& Debbies Haus gefahren und hat die neuen Fahrr\u00e4der geholt \u2013 das Geschenk vom Weihnachtsmann in diesem Jahr.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nBill, Debbie and Grandma were very much taken with the new Maples family calender (which had been produced by Andrea for many years, but been discontinued for a while – I was begged to take over so I did).
\nBill, Debbie und Oma h\u00f6chst begeistert vom neuen Maples-Familien Kalender (den Andrea lange Jahre gemacht und irgendwann eingestellt hat – ich wurde auf Knien angefleht, also habe ich den Job \u00fcbernommen).<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>The excitement about the bikes was especially big with Alyssa, Owen liked his too but had other favorites. We actually took them for a spin around the block. Overall both kids (and us!) were extremely happy with all the gifts they got – as you can see in all these pictures.
\nChristmas Day was at our house so after unwrapping presents, Adam and I made some winter roast preparations for Christmas dinner. The kids went to their Mom\u2019s in the afternoon \u2013 Bill, Debbie and Grandma came over that night and we ate, drank (mulled wine, oh how I had missed you) and played cards.<\/p>\n

Die Freude \u00fcber die neuen Fahrr\u00e4der war gro\u00df, besonders bei Alyssa. Owen mochte seines auch, hatte aber andere Favoriten. Eine Runde um den Block haben wir sogar auch noch gedreht. Insgesamt waren beide Kids (und wir!) sehr gl\u00fccklich mit all ihren Geschenken – wie ihr in den ganzen Bildern sehen k\u00f6nnt.
\nAm 1. Weihnachtsfeiertag waren wir bei uns, weshalb Adam und ich nach dem Geschenke auspacken und ein bisschen spielen ein paar Vorbereitungen f\u00fcr den Winterbraten zum Abendessen getroffen haben. Die Kinder haben wir am Nachmittag an ihre Mutter \u00fcbergeben \u2013 abends kamen Bill, Debbie und Adams Oma zu uns und wir haben gegessen, getrunken (Gl\u00fchwein, oh wie ich dich vermisst habe) und Karten gespielt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nHere are the two things Owen made for Adam and myself and my card from Alyssa as well as Owen’s Christmas card for us. Gotta love it!
