I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s December.. not only does that mean that Christmas is just around the corner, no \u2013 it means I moved almost a year ago. Although so many things have happened here, it doesn\u2019t feel like I\u2019ve been gone that long.
\n„Advent“ isn\u2019t a word Americans are familiar with, but I introduced the \u201cAdventskalender\u201d (advent calendar) to Adam two years ago and to the kids last year. So part of Liz\u2019 luggage and part of our shopping spree were devoted to the other three Mapleses calenders. With Liz\u2019 help it really didn\u2019t take too long and we got them finished just in time (one for the kids; they\u2019ll get to open one every other day and a half of one for Adam (who is making another half for me :)). Looking good, right?<\/p>\n

Ich kann kaum glauben, dass es schon Dezember ist.. das hei\u00dft n\u00e4mlich nicht nur, dass Weihnachten vor der T\u00fcr steht, nein \u2013 es hei\u00dft auch, dass ich jetzt schon sein fast einem Jahr hier wohne. Obwohl so viel passiert ist, f\u00fchlt es sich nicht so an, als ob ich schon so lange weg w\u00e4re.
\nAdvent ist kein Wort, das Amerikaner kennen, aber ich habe den Adventskalender schon vor 2 Jahren f\u00fcr Adam eingef\u00fchrt und letztes Jahr f\u00fcr die Kinder. Also hat Liz netterweise ein paar tolle Dinge aus Deutschland mitgebracht (\u00dcberraschungseier z.B.) und wir haben bei unserer Shoppingtour flei\u00dfig Inhalt f\u00fcr die Kalender der anderen drei Mapleses aufgegabelt. Mit Liz Hilfe hat das Verpacken auch gar nicht so lange gedauert und wir sind rechtzeitig fertig geworden (einer ist f\u00fcr die Kinder, die jeden 2. Tag einen Becher \u00f6ffnen d\u00fcrfen und ein halber ist f\u00fcr Adam (der wiederum noch einen halben f\u00fcr mich fabriziert :)). Die sehen super aus, oder?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/a>From what I\u2019m hearing, we will also be getting our tree very soon \u2013 the kids are rather impatient for some decorating, especially because it seems everybody in the neighborhood had all their decorations up the day after Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n

Ger\u00fcchten zufolge kommt auch zum Ende dieser oder Anfang n\u00e4chster Woche ein Weihnachtsbaum ins Haus \u2013 die Kinder wollen schm\u00fccken, vor allem weil gef\u00fchlt alle Nachbarn seit dem Tag nach Thanksgiving ihre Weihnachts-Deko aufgefahren haben.

\nIn other news I got my new interim glasses this week \u2013 interim because I will be wearing them only until my eyes get lasered in January. I do like them though :). They will correct my astigmatism (which had been corrected by my contacts before) and that will take away the blurriness from my vision (and therefore make life \u2013 work especially \u2013 much easier).<\/p>\n

Au\u00dferdem habe ich diese Woche meine \u00dcbergangsbrille bekommen \u2013 \u00dcbergang weil ich sie nur bis im Januar tragen werde, wenn meine Augen gelasert werden. Ich mag sie jedenfalls :). Sie korrigieren meinen Stigmatismus (der vorher von meinen Kontaktlinsen korrigiert wurde) und somit die noch bestehende Verschwommenheit beim Sehen (was mein (Arbeits-)Leben sehr erleichert).<\/strong><\/p>\n
