So on Monday it was finally time – my first day of work in this country was about to start. I was quite excited and am happy to present my badge, my cubicle and my first day’s worth of work :). I only worked three days this week (you’ll see later on why) and I was very happy to. I have a bunch of very friendly co-workers who made me feel very welcome and I’m looking forward to going back on Monday.
\nEndlich war es am Montag so weit – mein erster Arbeitstag in den USA. Ich habe mich tats\u00e4chlich ziemlich darauf gefreut und freue mich meinen Ausweis, meinen Arbeitsplatz und die Fr\u00fcchte meines ersten Arbeitstages zu pr\u00e4sentieren :). Ich habe diese Woche nur 3 Tage gearbeitet (weiter unten erfahrt ihr warum) und habe es sehr genossen. Ich habe viele nette KollegInnen, die froh sind mich zu haben und mich entsprechend freundlich aufgenommen haben. Ich freue mich schon am Montag wieder hinzugehen.<\/strong>

\nAs you know I also had an interview with the University of Missouri on Thursday and I thought that went really well. We’ll know more next week. Plus I have another interview coming up on Monday afternoon (Truman called me on my first day of work this week ^^).
\nWie ihr wisst, hatte ich am Donnerstag ein Interview an der Universit\u00e4t von Missouri und fand dass das wirklich gut gelaufen ist. N\u00e4chste Woche wissen wir mehr. Au\u00dferdem habe ich am kommenden Montag Nachmittag nochmal ein Interview (die Truman Universtit\u00e4t rief an meinem ersten Arbeitstag an ^^).<\/strong><\/p>\n

So why did I only go to work 3 days this week? Well first there was my interview, but way more importantly was my first live Football game! Adam and I had given a ticket to Bill for Father’s day and we were utterly excited to see the Denver Broncos (the Mapleses favorite team) play the Kansas City Chiefs only 2.5 hours away. As you might remember we had made it onto Lambeau Field, the stadium in Green Bay but I will tell you sth.: it’s quite different being in an empty stadium compared to being in a full one. We tried to snap some pics that will let the non-football crowd see how massive it all is. I was definitely impressed. The size, the amount of people, the height of the seating and the noise. Wow. Arrowhead Stadium seats over 76,400 people and it was almost sold out. What an atmosphere I tell you!<\/p>\n

Warum also war ich nur an 3 Tagen diese Woche arbeiten? Zum Einen war da das Interview, aber – viel wichtiger – mein ersten Live Football-Spiel! Adam und ich hatten Bill zum Vatertag ein Ticket geschenkt und waren voller Vorfreude auf das Spiel der Denver Broncos (aller Mapleses Lieblingsteam) gegen die Kansas City Chiefs, 2,5 Stunden von hier entfernt. Vielleicht erinnert ihr euch daran, dass wir es in Green Bay geschafft hatten in deren Stadium herumzuschn\u00fcffeln, aber ich sag euch mal was: Es ist ein ganz sch\u00f6ner Unterschied ob das Stadium leer oder voll ist. Wir haben versucht ein paar Fotos zu schie\u00dfen in denen diejenigen, die nicht schonmal in einem Stadium waren erkennen k\u00f6nnen wie riesig es ist. Ich war jedenfalls beeindruckt. Die Gr\u00f6\u00dfe, die Menge der Leute, die H\u00f6he der Trib\u00fcnen und der Sound. Wow. Es passen etwas \u00fcber 76.400 Menschen in das Arrowhead Stadium und es war fast ausverkauft. Was f\u00fcr eine Atmosph\u00e4re!<\/strong>

\nWe tried to take a few pre-game selfies and got photobombed by a Chiefs fan ^^:

\nAlso: this must have been the biggest American flag I’ve ever seen. They also had a stealth bomber fly-over right around anthem time – their base is in Mid-Missouri and apparently it’s not an unusual thing before a big sports event.
\nAu\u00dferdem habe ich bei dieser Gelegenheit die wohl bisher gr\u00f6\u00dfte amerikanische Flagge meines Lebens gesehen. Dann gabs da noch den \u00dcberflug des Tarnkappenbombers – deren St\u00fctzpunkt ist in der Mitte Missouri weshalb so etwas bei gro\u00dfen Sportevents wohl nicht selten ist.<\/strong>

\nWell and then the 3-hour game started. Seriously though: it was awesome. Definitely more fun to watch it live than on TV. Plus it was such an exciting game, that the Broncos managed to win in the last 20 seconds after being a score behind 2 minutes before it was over.
\nTja und dann ging es los mit den 3 Stunden Football-Vergn\u00fcgen. Mal im Ernst: Es war echt super. Macht live definitv mehr Spa\u00df als im Fernsehen und es war ein super spannendes Spiel, welches die Broncos in den letzten 20 Spielsekunden gewonnen haben, obwohl sie 2 Minuten vor Ende noch zur\u00fccklagen.

\nAnd then it was time to say goodbye. Which looks like this where there’s over 76,400 people trying to leave at the same time:

\nLast but not least, I wanted to show this week’s garden surprise ^^ – so we had decided to pull up our tomato plants because they were quite done and as I was doing that, Adam walked up and said: „look at the pepper plants“. Believe it or not – all of them are blooming and all of them have little peppers hanging from them. Looks like we might get some yield there after all :).
\nZum guten Schluss noch ein Wort zur Garten-\u00dcberraschung der Woche ^^. Wir hatten uns entschlossen, die Tomatenpflanzen auszugraben, da sie ziemlich hin\u00fcber waren und w\u00e4hrend ich das tat, kam Adam dazu und sagte: „Schau dir mal die Paprika- und Cayenne-Pflanzen an“. Unglaublich, aber wahr – alle bl\u00fchen und haben schon kleine Schoten. Sieht so aus als ob wir doch nochmal ernten k\u00f6nnen :).<\/strong>
