Back to school it was – Monday was the first day and Owen has now officially started at the „big school“. He actually quite likes his kindergarden teacher and class and has enjoyed riding the bus to and from school this first week. Let’s hope it stays that way!
\nAm Montag hie\u00df es zur\u00fcck in die Schule und Owen geht jetzt auch offziell in die „gro\u00dfe Schule“. Er mag seine Kindergarten-Lehrerin (hier startet die Schulpflicht mit einem Jahr des sogenannten Kindergartens – die Kindergarten-Kinder werden somit auch in der Grundschule unterrichtet) und seine „Mitsch\u00fcler“ und fand es auch sehr cool mit dem Schulbus zur und von der Schule zu fahren. Ich hoffe das bleibt so!<\/strong>

\nWe also messed with our garden some this week and I’m really looking forward to harvesting the one chili pepper we have :-D:
\nWir haben uns au\u00dferdem diese Woche auch mal wieder ein bisschen mehr mit dem Garten besch\u00e4ftigt und ich freue mich schon darauf, endlich meine eine Chilischote zu ernten :-).<\/strong>

\nWe were able to harvest two handfuls of very yummy tomatoes this week and should be able to do that at least twice more. Unfortunately our pumpkin and butternut squash plants weren’t doing equally well – the pumpkin plant looked all shriveled up and upon closer inspection that was no surprise: it was crawling with little grey beetles and they were starting to move over to the butternut squash plant as well. Since there were 5 very ripe butternuts already, we simply harvested those and pulled up both plants. We cut up three butternuts and just froze cubes of them – I hope those will still make good soup at least. We have one pumpkin and two butternuts still sitting on our porch – maybe they’ll ripen enough to be eaten as well.<\/p>\n

Wir konnten diese Woche schon zwei H\u00e4nde voll sehr leckere Tomaten ernten und sollten das auch noch mindestens 2x tun k\u00f6nnen. <\/strong>Unserer K\u00fcrbis- und Butternutpflanze ging es leider weniger gut – die K\u00fcrbispflanze sah ziemlich verschrumpelt aus und bei n\u00e4herem Hinsehen war das auch keine \u00dcberraschung: Sie war \u00fcbers\u00e4t mit kleinen grauen K\u00e4fern, die sich auch schon auf den Weg zur Butternut Pflanze gemacht hatten. Da es schon 5 reife Butternuts gab, haben wir diese kurzentschlossen geerntet und die Pflanzen entwurzelt. Drei von 5 Butternuts haben wir geschnitten und eingefroren, ich hoffe sie lassen sich so mindestens zu einer guten Suppe verarbeiten. Wir haben au\u00dferdem noch einen K\u00fcrbis und zwei weitere Butternuts auf der Veranda liegen in der Hoffnung, dass diese noch genug reifen um gegessen zu werden.<\/strong>
