Another week has passed and it was filled with family, football and more painting. Brian and family were at Adam’s parents‘ from friday to friday so we spent most of our afternoons and evenings with them – good times! We did Christmas with all of them and I was very happy to be included in the family tradition of getting sth Broncos for Christmas :D:
\nEine weitere Woche ist vergangen – sie war gepr\u00e4gt von Familie, Football und weiterem Streichen. Adams Bruder Brian, seine Frau Andrea und deren Kinder Sydney und Dylan waren eine Woche lang bei Adams Eltern (die ca. 8 Minuten von uns entfernt wohnen – Autominuten versteht sich) und wir haben die meisten Tage mit allen verbracht. Eine weitere Runde Weihnachten stand auf dem Programm und ich war h\u00f6chst erfreut dar\u00fcber, dass ich sofort in eine der Familientraditionen aufgenommen wurde – ein Kleidungsst\u00fcck zur Unterst\u00fctzung der Denver Broncos (Lieblingsfootball-Team der Familie Maples) pro Weihnachten :D:

\nThe cousins were definitely happy to have some time together.

\nNew Year’s Eve was spent playing cards. Unlike in Germany, it’s really not a big deal here – no fireworks or anything. So it was a fun evening with family& friends and we were in bed by 1 am.
\nSilvester ist hier nichts Besonderes – es gibt kein Feuerwerk – also haben wir mit Freunden und Familie Karten gespielt – es war ein sehr netter Abend und wir waren um 1 im Bett.<\/p>\n

We did spend quite some time watching football and to my surprise I can now say that it is indeed possible to both a) survive a three-hour game and b) to find it exciting even.
\nAu\u00dferdem haben wir exzessiv Football angeschaut und ich muss mit Erstaunen feststellen, dass man diese 3-Stunden Spiele tats\u00e4chlich a) gut \u00fcberstehen und b) sogar spannend finden kann.
\nBrian is working hard on his wedding beard and will no doubt make a beardtastic job when officiating.
\nBrian arbeitet schon flei\u00dfig an seinem Hochzeitsbart und wird ohne Zweifel ein „bart-tastischer“ Standesbeamter sein.

\nIn other news I got my Social Security no. on Monday which will make my life here a lot easier. This also prompted us to use a shopping trip to Columbia to get our marriage license. We’re now legal to tie the know!
\nDesweiteren kam am Montag meine Sozialversicherungsnummer – diese bestimmt so ungef\u00e4hr alles in diesem Land und hat uns u.a. erm\u00f6glicht, unsere Heiratserlaubnis beim Standesamt einzuholen. Lizenz zum Heiraten erteilt!

\nHere are a few impressions of our finished (in things painting anyway) bedroom and the other painting projects that were going on this past week:

Yesterday I got all the doorframes and doors in our hallway as well as base boards in our living room painted so now we’re down to „just“ the kitchen – our project for this coming week.
\nGestern habe ich alle T\u00fcrrahmen und T\u00fcren im Flur und Fu\u00dfleisten im Wohnzimmer gestrichen, jetzt bleibt also „nur noch“ die K\u00fcche – unser Projekt f\u00fcr die kommende Woche.<\/p>\n

So this morning (after already hearing Adam scratching ice off his car windows at 4:30 am, I woke up to this:

We’re at about 12\u00b0 F. Brrrr. I guess we can’t complain – we’ve had quite a few sunny days over the last few weeks as well.
\nEs hat heute ca. -11\u00b0 C. Brrr. Fairerweise muss man aber sagen, dass es in den vergangenen Wochen meist eher um die 15\u00b0 waren und die Sonne immer wieder zu sehen war.<\/p>\n

Apart from all the big things going on, I’ve had the chance to discover a few of the little things that make life special this past week :).LIke Like tiny tonic water bottles (perfect for two Gin& Tonic’s or one big one):<\/p>\n

\"2015-01-03<\/a>Also had I mentioned that it costs all of $25-30 to fill up the tank of my car? That almsot makes driving fun ^^.
\nHatte ich erw\u00e4hnt, dass es ganze 25-30 Dollar kostet um meinen Tank aufzuf\u00fcllen? Da macht Autofahren fast schon wieder Spa\u00df ^^.<\/p>\n

I should mention that I’m feeling much better than a week ago – the mucus has almost cleared and except for an annoying cough I’m mostly recovered. About time too.
