<\/del>Last weekend was spent in Hermann, MO at Oktoberfest – which unlike in Germany is all about wine with 4 big wineries around town. Hermann was first founded by German immigrants in the early 1800s and they definitely celebrate their German heritage. I think I want to live on the corner of 1st and Schiller, lol. Funnily enough most things German in Hermann seem pretty archaic – but then again that makes sense when you consider it was 200 years ago that the last actual Germans lived here.
\nWe went with Adams parents and friends of theirs. To sum it up: it was a fun weekend. But we’re never going back at this time of year. It was way too crowded everywhere and unbelievable what all we got charged for (to go into places, triple the price on a bottle of wine, a trolley that we barely got to use, because it couldn’t keep up, the hotel…). They know how to make money in Hermann, that’s for sure. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty town – but not worth paying that much for.<\/p>\n

Am letzten Wochenende waren wir zum Oktoberfest in Hermann, Missouri. Ganz anders als in Deutschland dreht es sich dort allerdings mehr um Wein, da 4 gro\u00dfe Weing\u00fcter vor Ort sind. Hermann wurde Anfang der 1800erter Jahre von deutschen Auswanderern gegr\u00fcndet und ist noch heute sehr stolz auf die deutschen Wurzeln. Ich w\u00fcrde auch gerne auf der Ecke der 1st Street und Schiller Street wohnen, lol. Das Lustige ist, das alles Deutsche dort fast archaisch wirkt (was nicht archaisch ist, ist bayrisch – pfui) – ist auch kein Wunder, wenn man bedenkt, dass die letzten Deutschen vor 200 Jahren dort waren. Deshalb gibt es jedenfalls noch eine Festhalle :).<\/strong>
\nWir waren mit Adams Eltern und deren Freunden dort. Kurz gefasst war es ein nettes Wochenende, aber wir werden nie wieder zu dieser Jahreszeit dort hin fahren. Es war \u00fcberall viel zu voll und die nehmen es von den Lebenden (Eintritt \u00fcberall, super \u00fcberh\u00f6hte Preise bei allem und ordentlich Geld f\u00fcr ein Art Taxiservice, der \u00fcberhaupt nicht funktioniert hat, das Hotelzimmer…). Die wissen wie sie Geld machen k\u00f6nnen, so viel ist klar. Versteht mich nicht falsch – es ist ein nettes St\u00e4dtchen, aber einfach nicht das Geld wert, das wir dort gelassen haben.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fun for me were our Bratwurst dinner on Friday, the German places and most of all a menu with K\u00f6lsch and Alt right next to each other :D.
\nBesonders witzig fand ich die Bratw\u00fcrste am Freitagabend (waren tats\u00e4chlich lecker und es gab Kartoffelsalat ohne Mayo!!), die ganzen deutschen Orte und Namen und die Speisekarte mit K\u00f6lsch und Alt direkt nebeneinander :D.<\/strong>

\nWe did get to enjoy amazing weather (I burned my nose once again) and a very nice view from this winery:
\nWir hatten allerdings gro\u00dfartiges Wetter (ich habe mir prompt mal wieder die Nase verbrannt) und einen sch\u00f6nen Blick von diesem Weingut aus:<\/strong>

\nMore alleged German food was ordered on Saturday night. This is supposed to be Sauerbraten and Sp\u00e4tzle, which – in Germany – is a beef roast with a sweet and sour sauce and homemade egg noodles. The red cabbage and Sp\u00e4tzle (which don’t really have the right shape) were very good, but apparently they got beef roast and roast beef confused – so I was utterly unimpressed with this meat (and ate next to none of it. Adam got lucky on those leftovers, lol).
\nAm Samstagabend habe ich es wieder mit deutschem Essen versucht. Dieses Mal sollte es Sauerbraten mit Sp\u00e4tzle sein. Jede\/r Deutsche sieht sofort: das ist kein Braten. Es war eher Roastbeef, was ich so gar nicht mag und somit Adam als Reste vermacht habe. Rotkohl und Sp\u00e4tzle (eher Nockerln, w\u00fcrde ich sagen) waren allerdings wirklich gut.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIn other news Adam was attacked by a deer on his way to work a week ago Monday ^^. I say attacked because there were two deer and he managed to avoid hitting the first one – but then the second one just ran into the door of the truck (luckily it was a Monday and he was in the truck – it could have been much less pretty in our car). Anyway – the deer went under and got the brakeline, so he lost use of his brakes fairly quickly, but luckily noticed and made it back home. So Bill& Adam got to work on the truck for a change (the Camaro is still being worked on as well, but nearing it’s completion).
\nIn weiteren Nachrichten wurde Adam Montag vor einer Woche auf dem Weg zur Arbeit von einem Reh attackiert ^^. Ich sage attackiert, da es zwei waren und er dem ersten noch ausweichen konnte – das zweite ihm aber promt in die T\u00fcr des Trucks rannte (gut, dass es ein Montag war – sonst h\u00e4tte es auch unser Auto treffen k\u00f6nnen und das w\u00e4re weitaus unsch\u00f6ner gewesen). Jedenfalls ist hat Reh auf dem Weg unter dem Truck die Bremsleitung erwischt und Adam somit recht schnell keine Bremsen mehr gehabt – gl\u00fccklicherweise fiel ihm das direkt auf und er hat es zur\u00fcck nachhause geschafft. Also durften Bill& Adam zur Abwechslung mal am Truck arbeiten (der Camaro ist ja auch noch in Arbeit, n\u00e4hrt sich aber der Vollendung).<\/strong>
