Last Saturday (16th<\/sup>) was Adam\u2019s birthday. Of course it was also a workday of his, but I needed him to get out early and take the 17th<\/sup> off \u2013 which he did. My gift was a surprise; the only thing he knew was that we were going to Kansas City. There, we ate dinner at a restaurant we had discovered on our last trip (but had only had a drink at before) \u2013 it was every bit as awesome as we had expected. My personal highlight was the cheese board & wine flight (4 glasses of different wines \u2013 just for a taste usually, but they were rather generous).
\nAdam\u2019s actual gift was a concert at the Kansas City symphony \u2013 Bernstein, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky with a violin soloist. The concert was at the Kaufman Center of Performing Arts which is worth a visit just due to its architecture. I had booked us into the same hotel we had stayed at last trip, because they had a free shuttle and we therefore didn\u2019t need to drive to the concert. The orchestra played brilliantly and the soloist was utterly impressive \u2013 we quite enjoyed ourselves! The chicken got to go along and played a little during intermission ;-).
\nLetzten Samstag (16.) war Adams Geburtstag. Nat\u00fcrlich war das auch ein Arbeitstag f\u00fcr ihn, aber ich hatte ihn \u00fcberzeugt fr\u00fcher zu gehen und den 17. frei zunehmen. Mein Geschenk war eine \u00dcberraschung; das Einzige, was er wusste war, dass wir nach Kansas City fahren w\u00fcrden. Dort haben wir in einem Restaurant zu Abend gegessen, das wir beim letzten Besuch entdeckt (aber damals nur f\u00fcr einen Drink an der Bar besucht) hatten. Es war wirklich gro\u00dfe Klasse und genauso gut wie erwartet. Mein Highlight war die K\u00e4seplatte mit (\u00e4u\u00dferst gro\u00dfz\u00fcgiger) Weinbegleitung (4 verschieden Weine).
\nAdams tats\u00e4chliches Geschenk war ein Konzert in der Philharmonie \u2013 Bernstein, Tchaikovsky und Stravinsky mit einer Solo-Violinistin. Das Konzert war im Kaufman Center of Performing Arts, was schon allein aufgrund seiner Architektur einen Besuch wert ist. Ich hatte uns im selben Hotel wie beim letzten Besuch eingebucht, da dieses einen kostenlosen Shuttle Service anbietet und wir somit nicht selbst fahren mussten. Das Orchester spielte ganz gro\u00dfartig und die Violinistin war total beeindruckend \u2013 wir haben es sehr genossen. Das H\u00e4hnchen war auch dabei und hat in der Pause selbst ein bisschen gespielt ;-).

\nIt was 5 degrees out and freezing cold despite the sunshine, plus some wind on top.
\nEs hatte ca. -16\u00b0 Celcius und war trotz strahlenden Sonnenscheins wirklich bitterst kalt (und windig obendrauf).<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a very good brunch we went to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and back towards Macon from there \u2013 the Broncos had an afternoon game and we wanted to watch the game with Bill& Debbie. The game itself was really not fun to watch at times, but we had a good time nonetheless (sorry Jennifer :-D).
\n<\/strong>Nach einem sehr guten Brunch waren wir im Kemper-Museum der zeitgen\u00f6ssischen Kunst und sind danach wieder Richtung Heimat aufgebrochen \u2013 nachmittags haben die Broncos gespielt und wir wollten das Spiel mit Bill& Debbie anschauen. Das Spiel selbst war zeitweise wirklich nicht sch\u00f6n anzusehen, aber wir hatten unseren Spa\u00df (Vergib uns, Jennifer :-D).

\nOn Tuesday we got a mere 3-4 inches or so of snow \u2013 it was not as bad as forecasted, but bad enough for the school to close on Wednesday. I was very happy to not have to drive, but be taken in a big-ass 4-wheel drive truck (thank you, David!!) \u2013 I definitely felt safer in that! I still love snow, but nobody should have to drive in it\u2026 Alyssa announced in the morning that she would be doing some German lessons since she didn\u2019t have to go to school. And is already planning on reading some of my German kids\u2018 books :-D.
\nAm Dienstag hat es dann ca. 8-10 Zentimeter wert geschneit \u2013 nicht so viel wie vorausgesagt, aber genug um die Schule am Mittwoch zu schlie\u00dfen. Ich war echt froh, dass ich nicht selber fahren musste, sondern in einem dicken 4-Rad betriebenen Pick-Up Truck mitgenommen wurde (Danke, David!!) \u2013 ich f\u00fchlte mich darin bedeutend sicherer. Ich liebe Schnee immer noch, aber es sollte einfach keiner durchfahren m\u00fcssen… Alyssa k\u00fcndigte morgens an, dass sie ein bisschen in ihrem Deutschbuch arbeiten wollte, da sie keine Schule hatte. Und plant schon die ersten meiner deutschen Kinderb\u00fccher zu lesen :-D.
